Missing Family

One of the things I miss most through all of this is seeing all of my family. More specifically my dad and my husband’s parents. We see them a lot so the social distancing thing is really trying. They are all in their mid-seventies so they are tucked away in their homes and are getting groceries delivered. They are doing everything right but I miss them. We talk on the phone every other day but it is not the same.

Since I lost my mom a little over a year ago, it is very important for me to see my family regularly. I know that this phase will pass, too but I miss them greatly. I know it is the right thing to do for their health and safety but it is really hard.

  1. Agreed! You have really struck a chord.

My mom is 300 miles away from me, and it’s hard to know that she’s so far away. And usually, I’m the one of my siblings who gets in my to go visit whenever anything happens, but even that now I can’t do.

    Hoping that things pass smoothly…

  2. My dad passed away 5 years ago and my mom passed away almost 2 years ago. My twin sister and I are the youngest of 5 siblings with a 16 year age spread. After Mom’s funeral, my twin sister reflected that we probably wouldn’t see much of our oldest siblings anymore. We were never super close because they were out of the house before I was old enough to go to school so we have always moved in different orbits. The upside of this pandemic for us is that we have been holding weekly family zoom sessions. I have talked more with my oldest sister in the last two weeks than I have in the two years since my mom died.

  3. Missing others. Missing live and in person. I feel this. I think many of us are noticing that electronic messages are better than nothing, but the real touch is being together. Isolation is tough.

  4. We have been doing Zoom chats with my family and it has been really fun! Tonight, we pooled $240+ dollars to dare to my uncle to shave his long hair and he actually did it on the video call and it was the funniest thing. Maybe try doing that on google or zoom or facebook!
